To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question. Hi, I am wondering how to move Logic Pro X and all of its files to a hard drive. If at all possible, I would like to house the app on the external hard drive instead of on my computer. In saying that, I don’t know if this is something that I can do. I’ve seen other posts but they are a couple of years old and I’m not sure if they are still valid. Posted on Jul узнать больше, AM.
I wouldn’t recommend moving нажмите для продолжения Logic Pro X app itself from the system drive. Not sure if that’s even possible. It doesn’t take a lot of disk space per se. You’ll need to create symbolic links for folders on your system drive where macOS stores the bulk of Logic’s sound library. Here’s a couple of articles to help with this:.
Just be aware of the fact that Sound Library Детальнее на этой странице a component within Logic responsible for downloading the sound library content might not recognize the library адрес to the external HD as installed, although Logic WILL load loops, samples, and other content from it. This issue can be dealt with by spending a logic pro x sounds on external hard drive free re-downloading the library.
Depending on fref amount of free space on your system HD, you may want to re-download and re-install library components to exgernal HD one by one, instead of everything at once. Jul 13, AM. Well I started the download and frankly it is quite a pain you know where! I was able to download the essential files, relocate them onto an external drive. After that you have to download content bit by bit if your main drive is a small SDD otherwise you get a message “your drive is too small, please trash unecessary files, clean up the drive etc Fine but it will take ages.
Moreover the Apple loops and impulse files are not relocatable it seems. Why on earth didn’t Apple just let us decide where we want all files located?
This is crazy for such a sophisticated DAW. Yes, hard to understand the “motivation”, if any. I must say when I had to abandon Logic I switched to Ableton Live which has none of those circumvoluted fiddles. You just put your files wherever you want, have Live locating them once and you are done!
That said, thank you very much for the tips and comments. Last edited by Elevteros; 31st October at AM.. Just got crazier – that’s it Logic, I’ve had it! Well here I am i the studio to continue downloading content, starting with about 1.
Absolute madness, or is there a work around? Doesn’t seem to be. Last edited by Elevteros; 31st October at PM.. Thank you! I did know about Symlinks, have it and tried it but it is rather dodgy and Logic didn’t like that one bit, no matter what the Youtube videos show! I am still puzzled by the I guess Apple just wants us to get large expensive SDDs.
The symbolic link seems interesting. HD is formatted HFS. And yes, Apple would like us to sell at least one kidney to buy their pro stuff nowadays Leaving my Greek studio in a few days so this will now have to wait here for the winter. In Brussels I use a laptop so I’ll try there the suggested method in a week. Very grateful for your inputs and help you are actually the only one who bothered.
In Brussels Well I have things to do in Brussels That’s life! Well, I’m sure you’re aware of them already, but don’t miss their Pommes Frites. Possibly the best in the world. Alright, here’s an idea that should very likely work: – Clone your system drive to any external drive.
Could basically be anything sufficiently large, so any cheap spinning HDD will do. I can’t see why that wouldn’t work. It’s just a few hours of downtime the Apple servers are sometimes painfully slow and cloning drives will take some time, too.
Thanks Sascha, Much obliged! Not only Apple servers are slow but connexions on the island are too! Providing the desired storage location is compatible and formatted as instructed above, this can be due to a quick permissions issue, and you might just need to give Logic Pro access to your new library storage medium:.
From there click the Security and Privacy icon, then the Privacy tab on the top, and hit that lock icon in the bottom left corner so you can make changes.
In the left column, click full Disk Access and select the checkbox next to Logic Pro in the app window on the right. Simply follow the relocation steps above, but be sure to choose your internal Macintosh HD as the new, relocated Sound Library destination.
